Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Nashville TN
1115 AM CDT Tue Jun 24 2025

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...

.KEY MESSAGES...
Updated at 1115 AM CDT Tue Jun 24 2025

- Dangerous heat will continue through Friday as heat index
values reach into the triple digits each day.

- Rain chances will gradually increase late this week into early
  next week.

&&

.SHORT TERM...
(Rest of today through Wednesday)
Issued at 1115 AM CDT Tue Jun 24 2025

The first heat wave of the season continues with a strong,
sprawling upper level high centered directly overhead through
Wednesday. Today and Wednesday will bring the hottest temps and
highest heat index values of this event. The ridge will suppress
most clouds and deep convection, but a couple of storms could
develop in the heat of the afternoon. The latest HREF points
toward our northwest counties for a couple of cells this
afternoon. In the small areas that receive rain today and
tomorrow, downpours could be heavy with gusty winds to 40 mph and
frequent lightning. The overnight hours will be quiet but muggy
with a few patches of fog.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday Night through next Tuesday)
Issued at 1115 AM CDT Tue Jun 24 2025

Dangerous heat will continue Thursday and Friday, but we will see
the first stages of pattern change with weakening of the upper ridge
and increasing moisture depth. Highs temps will begin trending
downward as daily thunderstorm coverage gradually increases.

The trend of lessening heat and increasing coverage of showers
and storms will continue through next Tuesday. Rain chances will
climb into the "likely" category by the start of July as a frontal
zone approaches. We are not looking for severe storms, but the warm and
humid environment will continue to support a few storms with
localized heavy downpours and gusty winds each afternoon and early
evening. Although we will move out of heat danger levels, it will
remain quite warm and humid- typical for the time of year.

It is too soon to be specific about Independence Day
forecasts. Right now the trend shows a near normal temperature
pattern with rainfall forecasts leaning above normal.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 615 AM CDT Tue Jun 24 2025

MVFR patchy fog will lift in the next hour and we will see VFR
conditions through the TAF period. FEW to SCT clouds 040-060 this
afternoon. Less than 10% chance of a pop up afternoon
thunderstorm, otherwise dry. Light mainly southerly winds under 5
knots.
